Description
In this drawing of Arnaud of Hauterives, realized in ink and watercolor, the artist captures a moment of suspended intimacy, that of a woman behind, folded on herself in an introspection posture. The modest format (32 x 23.8 cm) accentuates the delicacy of the scene, reinforced by the subtle contrast between the nervous and precise line of the pen and the softness of the purple color that dresses the dress. The posture of the figure - tilted head, arms crossed - seems to translate a form of recollection, even melancholy. The light seems to emanate from the white paper, coming to graze the hair carefully drawn and the floral pattern, evoking both modesty and refinement.
Arnaud of Hauterives, known for his mastery of the drawing and his sensitivity to the human figure, book here a work full of restraint, served by a technique where the control of the line does not prevent the emotional vibration. This composition echoes the elegance of a bye, to some idealized femininity, without ever falling into the anecdote. Integrated into the work Beauties of Europe, this work is part of a subtle figurative tradition, where the interiority of subjects becomes more than it shows. The choice of mauve lavis, delicately applied, adds a note from earty and unreality, conferring on the stage a silent poetry. It's a simple and captivating drawing, which invites contemplation without ever forceing the look.
