With Afternoon, Andras Kaldor continues his exploration of a daily sublimated by graphics and silence. The work is intended as the natural continuation of Morning, of which she shares the formal rigour, the refinement of the palette and this unique way of capturing a moment of pause in a felted world. There is a stylized female figure sitting on the terrace, absorbed by her thoughts. The play of shadow worn, the elegance of the hat with clear contours, the precise drapes, all helps to create an atmosphere of meditative tranquility.
Here Kaldor has the most architectural details: the moulding of a carved wooden table, the coffee maker with clean lines, the abstract reflections in the window of a café or a Parisian hotel. These elements, rigorously integrated into the composition, reinforce the feeling of stability and comfort. The colours, dominated by blues, pearl grey and a powdery rose, evoke dim light, that of the early afternoons in the city, between dreaming and immobility. The aesthetics of this screen printing recall the posters of the great era of Cassandre or Savignac, but with a sober modernity that anchors the work in a reassuring timelessness.
