Description
With this work entitled Andy Warhol 1, Victor Hasch is part of a double lineage: that of Pop Art, of course, by convoking the iconography of Warhol, but also in his own approach to contemporary rereading of emblematic figures of the twentieth century. The female face — probably inspired by the famous screenprinted portraits of Marilyn Monroe or Liz Taylor — floats here on an immaculate white background, as if the artist had wanted to extract its essence, until leaving only a vibration, a memory printed in collective memory.
The mixed technique, combining acrylic and silkscreen paint, reinforces the contrast between the reproducibility of the image (heritage of Warhol) and the uniqueness of Hasch's pictorial gesture. The color zones are deliberately restricted, leaving room for an economy of means that says a lot: the carmine red lips, the pink touches around the eyes and some turquoise blue reflections in the hair evoke an aesthetic of erasure. It is an almost ghostly image, a fragile appearance that the artist captures at the border of reality and icon.
Victor Hasch is not content with a mere tribute. He questions our relationship to the image — its persistence, its degradation, its cult — by taking the footstep of the visual saturation of the original Pop Art. Here, celebrity is undressed with gold and glamour: it is matter, trace, echo. A work that seduces as much by its technical mastery as by its reflection on the ephemeral and posterity of the media image.
