Description
With Andy Warhol 2, Victor Hasch continues his series of homages to the world of the master of Pop Art, in an approach that is both respectful and reinterpretive. Drawing on the codes of Warhol's screen printing — irregular screen texture, frontal composition, accentuated monochrome — Hasch here chooses to work from an iconic female portrait, which he deliberately deconstructs through formal economy. This almost spectral face floats on a radiant white canvas, as if the image itself were threatening to vanish at any moment.
The subtle interplay between density and erasure, between saturated black and the barely sketched touches of pink or blue, gives this work a distinctive vibration. Where Warhol brought the figure to the fore through repetition and chromatic saturation, Hasch opts for the reverse: a rarefaction, an evaporation of the figure, to the point of partial abstraction. It is less a question of celebrating a star than of probing our collective visual memory. The image eludes us, leaves room for doubt, and evokes an imprint more than an icon.
This chiaroscuro work, combined with the mixed technique of screen printing and acrylic, places Andy Warhol 2 within a contemporary reflection on the status of the image and its survival. Victor Hasch offers us here a work that is dense in its austerity, capturing the very essence of the media face while confronting us with its fragility. An intelligent, nuanced and profoundly current homage.
