Description
In this third variation around the Warholian figure, Victor Hasch opts for a more assertive, almost frontal contrast between the screen printed image and its chromatic environment. On a dense, saturated purple background, the blemish face emerges with striking intensity. The fixed look, the graphic features, the yellow and pink uplifts — applied by keys — accentuate the ambivalence of the subject: both a frozen icon and a vibrant presence. This stylized, almost spectral portrait evokes a mental image more than an incarnate representation.
Here Hasch continues his exploration of the visual myth initiated by Andy Warhol, but with a clear desire for pictorial introspection. Far from a mere formal resumption, Andy Warhol 3 play on the shift: industrial reproduction gives way to the uniqueness of the gesture, the series becomes unique trace. The purple bottom, saturated and worked in visible impâtations, breaks with the usual uniformity of the warholian flats. He affirms the materiality of the painting, and gives back to the face a kind of lost d'aura.
This work marks a more expressive turn in the series, almost melancholic. It is no longer a tribute, but a silent dialogue with a founding figure of contemporary art. In this, Andy Warhol 3 as a bridge between two generations of artists who question, each in their own way, the place of the image and the survival of the icon in a world saturated with signs.
