Description
With this lively and jubilatory work, Cats between Montmartre and Eiffel Tower, M.CHAT deploys all the world that has made his fame: a stylized Paris, bathed in blue and grey, punctuated with emblematic monuments, and of course, his famous orange feline with irresistible smile. On the rolling roofs of the capital, between the Sacred Heart and the flamboyant Eiffel Tower, the two cats dance and stretch, embodying a simple and communicative joy, a free spirit that escapes the conventional frameworks of urban art.
Thoma Vuille is in line with the artists who made the street their first workshop: Blek the Rat, Miss.Tic, Jérôme Mesnager, but also Shepard Fairey or Keith Haring, whose spontaneous trait and frank colors resonate here. While the background of the composition recalls the panoramas of Paris dear to Utrillo, the graphic treatment is intended to be pop and accessible, almost childish, but always demanding in its visual balance. The colour is used efficiently: the orange bursting cats contrasts with the red of the Eiffel Tower and the blues of the roofs, in a controlled chromatic partition.
The work seduces as much by its immediacy as by the tenderness it inspires. M.CHAT, now an essential artist of the French urban landscape, manages to capture the soul of Paris through contemporary visual poetry. A nod to the city of light, where street art dialogue with tradition, lightness with culture.
