Description
Snoopy pulls a small wooden cart overflowing with red and pink hearts, stacked in a pyramid, while Woodstock balances on top. The beagle, wearing a yellow pom-pom beanie and a red checked sweater, steps lightly toward the bottom of the banknote. A few hearts still float around the portrait of George Washington, which fades into the shadows behind them.
Pazblandina draws here on a genuine one-dollar banknote, whose golden background brings out the vivid colours. The lively, precise pencil line and the touches of white and red animate the scene without obscuring the banknote's engravings: the green seal, the serial number, the ornaments. The contrast is the very subject of the work: Snoopy's childlike tenderness taking up residence in the symbol of money, in a dialogue between pop art, street art and consumer society that runs through the entire output of this Italian artist, born in 1972 on the shores of Lake Garda. His training as a graffiti artist, then as a painter, is evident in the energy of his gesture as well as in his mastery of mixed media.
This original, signed drawing is presented in its plexiglass display stand, gift-ready, with a certificate. It can also be viewed at Galerie 125 in Argancy, near Metz, by appointment, and can be ordered online with insured delivery.
