Description
A strange tenderness emanates from this Pikachu Van Gogh: the famous yellow character gazes up with a slightly anxious look, wearing a straw hat banded in blue, amid ears of wheat that frame him as in a summer field. The round face, rosy cheeks and pointed ears remain clearly recognisable, but the treatment draws on a long tradition: small, nervous, oblique strokes model the fur and the straw, in the spirit of the Dutch painter's self-portraits.
Pazblandina works here on an actual 1-dollar banknote, retaining its engraved ornaments, numerals, seal and signature. The drawing occupies the lower half and sinks into the printed design, letting the pale green and black of the engraving surface between the ochre, orange and brown touches. This coexistence between official currency and an icon of popular culture, itself reinterpreted in the manner of a master, extends the Italian artist's dialogue between pop art, street art and a critical view of consumer society. His line, born of graffiti and later refined in the studio, remains lively and precise.
The work is signed, certified by Galerie 125, and presented on its complimentary Plexiglas stand. It travels in careful packaging, and its shipment is tracked from start to finish. A distinctive small format, not to be missed by those who enjoy the crossing of images.
