Jean-François Arrigoni-Neri, Gesture and Color

Born in Paris in 1937, Jean-François Arrigoni-Neri entered the École Estienne at fourteen, graduating in 1955 with the Cortot engraving prize. After a decade as an engraver, notably at Draeger printing house, he worked for Parisian advertising studios and became a freelance illustrator in 1969. He is credited with campaigns for Hermès, Guerlain, and Citroën, posters for Roland-Garros and the Davis Cup, as well as illustrations for books published by Gallimard, Larousse, and Flammarion. He notably received the Grand Prix de l'illustration in Chamonix in 1986.

In the mid-1980s, he abandoned illustration to devote himself to painting. His style, sometimes realistic, in the vein of Norman Rockwell whom he cited as a reference, sometimes very lively and colorful, applies to portraits, seascapes, jazz, sports, and the Orient. His works are notably featured in the Museum of Decorative Arts, the National Gendarmerie Museum, and the Roland-Garros Tennis Museum.
