History of Shoichi HASEGWA
A student of the Kokuga Institute in Tokyo, he was introduced as soon as he arrived in France in 1961, to the engraving by Stanley William Hayter in his workshop 17 in Paris. He participates in numerous collective exhibitions, not least as an engraver.
These include the Salon de la Jeune Painting in Paris in 1962, the Salon des realities nouvelles in Paris in 1963 and 1964, the Biennale Internationale de Gravure in Ljubljana, the Salon de la Jeune Gravure Contemporain in Paris in 1966, the Biennale Internationale de Gravure in Krakow.
In 1968, he won the First Prize for Engraving at the Como International Exhibition.
He later won many other awards around the world.
He presents his works in numerous exhibitions in Tokyo, Stockholm, Ljubljana, Melbourne, Bordeaux, Brussels, Liège, Geneva, Strasbourg, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, London, and others.
In a form of abstract art, he performs a work on the borders of extreme oriental calligraphy, traditional symbolism of forms and colors, and new Western expressions. On colorful "tachist" backgrounds, decorative graphic motifs are engraved in white in the tradition of Japanese popular imagery. These works are present in many museums around the world and in our art gallery in Moselle.
