Yvonne Mottet, a Vigorous Figuration

Yvonne Mottet (1906-1968) was a French painter of the École de Paris, associated with the Jeune Peinture movement. The wife of painter Bernard Lorjou, she developed a vigorous figurative oeuvre, focused on the human figure and color.

A Painter of the Jeune Peinture

Born in Lyon on January 6, 1906, Yvonne Mottet shared the life and artistic struggle of Bernard Lorjou, a figure of post-war figurative painting. Like him, she championed expressive and colorful painting, rooted in reality, apart from the then-triumphant abstraction. She died on September 12, 1968, in Saint-Denis-sur-Loire.
