Bernard Peltriaux, Women and the Belle Époque
Bernard Peltriaux (1921-1999) was a French painter and lithographer from Reims. His work, joyful and elegant, is entirely dedicated to women, captured in the social scene of the Belle Époque and the 1930s.
A Reims Native in Love with Elegance
Trained at the Beaux-Arts of Reims from 1938 to 1941, then at the École normale supérieure de l'enseignement technique in Paris, Bernard Peltriaux taught at the Roosevelt high school in Reims while pursuing a painting career. Quickly noticed in Parisian salons and galleries, he composed atmospheric scenes where elegant women stroll in parks, under parasols or at café terraces, with a subtle anecdotal background and much charm.
