ZAROU
ZAROU was born in 1930 in Gassin, small village near Saint-Tropez in the Var. His childhood was bathed in a warm artistic atmosphere, because his father Tony Cardella, a Corsican painter, took him with him when he went to paint in nature, as well as in the numerous exhibitions he made in the South of France. Zarou, following the steps of his father and assisted by him, will expose for the first time at the age of 12. That's how he sells his first canvas. After two years of military service in a parachute regiment, he went to Paris and completed his artistic studies at the Julian Academy in 1955. From this date he will regularly exhibit in several galleries throughout France, notably in Cannes, Nice, Lyon, Paris, Metz, Saint-Etienne, Saint-Tropez, Montpellier, Mougins, Grenoble, but also abroad, especially in Switzerland and Dubai. Zarou even participated in group exhibitions with Chagall, Picasso, Dali... Along with his painted work, he also created numerous original lithographs and illustrated several books of bibliophilia. In 1971, the city of Paris awarded him the Silver Medal and in 1980 the Vermeil Medal. He is Commander in the Order of Artistic Education and Office of Merit and French Devotion. Since 1976, Zarou has had the privilege of appearing in the two reference books: the Benezit and the Mayer. (Biography from the artist's website: http://www.zarou.net)
