Jean Duvet, the "French Dürer"
Jean Duvet, born in 1485 in Langres and died around 1560, was a French engraver and goldsmith of the Renaissance. Decorator of royal festivities, enameller, and medalist, he was one of the first French masters of burin engraving.
A Rare and Singular Work
His engraved work, very rare, combines the preciousness and naivety of the primitives, and remains isolated in the art of the 16th century. His famous Apocalypse series earned him the nickname "French Dürer."
