Description
Original silkscreen on 100% cotton cloth, 56 x 76 cm
Justified Essai drawing, signed by hand by the artist, with dry tampon of the cat head.
With Getaway, Thoma Vuille, alias M.CHAT, offers us a sunny, joyful and iconic vision of Paris. This silkscreen with 8 passages of colours, with a great technical mastery, features his fetish character – the famous yellow cat with a malicious smile – on a backdrop of Parisian roofs, under a lively sky of stylized clouds and bright blue. The Eiffel Tower stands out on the right, immediately recognizable, while the Haussmann architecture completes the decor: a true pop and contemporary postcard of the capital.
Since his debut in the streets of Orleans and then in Paris, Mr.CHAT has stopped spreading a form of urban poetry. Her playful feline has become an emblem of optimism, a reassuring silhouette in the chaos of cities. Here, straight lines, sharp flats and sharp contrasts reflect his legacy of street art while assuming a graphic aesthetic inherited from comics or pop art. Getaway celebrates the momentum, the movement, the simple joy of being there, arms open to the city, in an almost universal gesture of welcome. This work, signed and enhanced by the artist's dry seal, is much more than a colorful image: it says with softness and humour that art can also be a smile on the walls.
