TOFFOLI Louis - Original pencil drawing "House in Grado (Italy)" 26x36cm - Frame

Louis Toffoli, a major figure in figurative art of the 20th century, dedicated a large part of his work to representing landscapes, villages, and scenes of life that marked his journey. With House in Grado (Italy), created in 1966, the artist delivers an original ink drawing of great finesse, where each line reveals his remarkable sense of observation. Located on the shores of the Adriatic, the city of Grado inspires a composition here imbued with calm and authenticity, highlighting traditional Italian architecture with its bright facades, irregular openings, and volumes bathed in light.

The work of the line constitutes all the richness of this piece. Through a delicate play of hatchings and crosshatchings, Louis Toffoli constructs shadows, perspectives, and textures with remarkable precision. Without resorting to color, he manages to suggest the warmth of the Mediterranean sun and the softness of the Italian atmosphere. This mastery of drawing, characteristic of his preparatory work but also of many standalone works, attests to his perfect understanding of volumes and space.

Through this representation, Toffoli goes beyond a simple architectural study. The buildings seem inhabited by time, the stones tell a story, and the alleyways invite the viewer to imagine the daily life of this Italian city. The absence of characters paradoxically reinforces the human presence, as the artist succeeds in conveying the soul of the place solely through the accuracy of his drawing.

Dated 1966 and signed by hand at the bottom left, this original work by Louis Toffoli is a precious testimony to the artist's work during a particularly fruitful period of his career. Its visible format of 26 × 36 cm allows for a full appreciation of its precision, while the frame, included with the work, elegantly showcases the finesse of the drawing. Accompanied by its certificate of authenticity, this piece will appeal to both fans of original drawings and collectors of Louis Toffoli, sensitive to the graphic quality and discreet poetry of his work.
