Description
In Bouquet of Roses (1958), Léonor Foujita deployed all the finesse of his art to magnify a classic subject with near botanic precision. This lithography, made by the Mourlot Frères workshops in Paris, is distinguished by the elegance of its line and the subtlety of its palette. The roses, in delicate shades of red, yellow and ivory, flourish in a vase with slightly baroque curves, reminiscent of the still lifes of the classical era. Each petal, each sheet is rendered with a remarkable thoroughness, testifying to the artist's Japanese heritage and attention to detail.
The pale yellow background, treated without abstinence, highlights the transparency of the stems and the brightness of the colors without distracting the eye, while the gray vase, slightly shaded, anchors the composition in a refined sobriety. Foujita's signature, discreet but recognizable, affixes the artist's seal on this scene marked by softness and melancholy. With this lithography, Foujita offers us more than just a floral representation: a silent meditation on the fragility and ephemeral beauty of life, where the harmony of forms and hues translates an almost timeless serenity.
