Description
With Cats on the roofs of Paris, M.CHAT – alias Thoma Vuille – signs a splendid and joyfully Parisian work, emblematic of his poetic universe. This large format screen printing (79,5 x 112,5 cm), enhanced with acrylic, becomes here a unique work, where the artist transcends the printing process by superimposing free gestures and frank colors. Three winged cats, recognizable by their broad smile and round shapes, hover above the blue roofs of a stylized Paris. In the background, the silhouette of the Eiffel Tower anchors the scene in a dream capital, where the emblems become urban theatre decorations. This silkscreened background, rigorously built, contrasts beautifully with the pink and red acrylic splashes, direct marks of the artist's gesture.
A true icon of French street art since the 2000s, Mr.CHAT has been able to create an immediately recognizable visual language based on optimism and poetry. This smiling cat, born in Orléans and seen around the world (from Paris to New York, via Sarajevo or Tokyo), becomes here the hero of an aerial getaway above the zinc roofs. Cat flight, recurrent in Vuille, is here metaphorized by angel wings and a brilliant color setting, calling at the same time childhood, utopia and freedom.
