Description
With Cats on the rooftops of Paris - 2, M.CHAT offers a second variation around one of its fetish themes: feline flight in a dream Paris. This exceptional work, silkscreen printing enhanced with acrylic on large format Japanese paper (79,5 x 112,5 cm), is distinguished by the addition of ink drawings in the very bodies of the feline. On the sides of two of the flying cats can be seen precise sketches of the roofs of Paris, punctuated with chimneys, arches and a stylized Eiffel Tower, like a miniature inhabited world. This graphic insertion, combining the rigour of the line and the freedom of gesture, acts as an abyss, an introspective wink to the city that saw the birth and growth of the universe of M.CHAT.
Thoma Vuille continues his dialogue between street art and traditional drawing and screen printing techniques. True to his joyful iconography, the artist makes three smiling and winged cats flicker in a clear sky with starred crosses. But it is in the details that the singularity of this unique piece lies: the handwritten inscription at the bottom of the work – "Mr. Chat since 1997, urban painter from Orléan graffiti & paris!!!" – anchors this creation in a personal and artistic history. More than just a reinterpretation of his iconic motif, this work constitutes a declaration of identity, a celebration of his journey and an affirmation of the poetic power of urban art. It will delight fans of solar feline as well as contemporary art enthusiasts looking for a truly unique example.
