Over the years I have created several wave illustrations, as I admire their power and beauty. The breaking of waves and the cycle of the tides seem to form an unchanging pattern, yet the health of the oceans is deteriorating in many places. The title "Wave of Distress" is meant as a warning. Distress means "suffering in a state of great anguish." If the oceans are in danger, the entire planet will face a wave of distress. The oceans regulate the climate and mitigate the effects of climate change; they provide an essential habitat and a source of food for many species, including humankind. Beyond the wave, I have incorporated motifs into the work that create a rhythmic harmony. Preserving this rhythmic harmony of the ocean is essential. These prints remind us of the importance of respecting and restoring the oceans.
