Description
Created in 1992, The Room of Van Gogh is an original engraving by Bernard Buffet inspired by one of the most iconic subjects in art history. Through this work, the artist pays tribute to Vincent van Gogh by reinterpreting the famous room in the Yellow House in Arles, immortalized by the Dutch painter in several globally renowned paintings.
True to his graphic language, Bernard Buffet appropriates this subject with sharp lines and a rigorous spatial construction. The bed, chairs, table, and everyday objects are depicted with great simplicity, while the tense lines and characteristic hatching of the artist create an atmosphere that is both intimate and expressive. This personal vision transforms a now mythical interior into a work deeply marked by Bernard Buffet's universe.
Printed on vellum paper, this original engraving measures 58 x 76 cm. It is justified E.A. IV/XXX (Artist's Proof) and bears Bernard Buffet's handwritten signature in pencil, two elements highly valued by enthusiasts of his graphic work.
Created during the last years of his career, this engraving illustrates the dialogue Bernard Buffet maintained with the great masters of painting. By revisiting the room in Arles, he pays homage to Vincent van Gogh while asserting his own artistic identity. This certified work is therefore a remarkable piece for enthusiasts of Bernard Buffet, original engravings, and 20th-century modern art.
