Description
With Defend Your Freedoms, Shepard Fairey, also known as OBEY, brings together three compositions devoted to the freedom of assembly, the freedom of speech and the freedom of the press. Created in 2026, this series forms a cohesive ensemble in which each image echoes the other two, both in its message and in its graphic language.
In Freedom of Assembly, a crowd gathers in front of the Washington Monument, while a silhouette in the foreground raises a clenched fist. The monumental perspective and the red beams emphasise the strength of the gathering. Freedom of Speech reinterprets the image of the Statue of Liberty, holding up a megaphone: speech becomes a symbol of mobilisation here. In Freedom of the Press, a hand grasps a pen above a mechanical printing press, linking writing with the dissemination of information.
Vivid red, deep blue and blue-green tones stand out against the cream paper. The textures and contrasts give the three screenprints the characteristic visual impact of Shepard Fairey. The shared slogan "Defend your Freedoms" places each composition within a single committed artistic approach.
This set includes the three screenprints from the series, each measuring 61 × 46 cm on thick cream Speckletone paper and signed in pencil by Shepard Fairey. All bear the number 220/400. This correspondence, known as "Matching Numbers", allows the three subjects to be presented together with identical numbering.
Displayed side by side, the works form a particularly harmonious graphic ensemble. Offered by Galerie 125 as a single lot, this set fully conveys the dialogue between the three images and their common message in defence of freedoms.
