Jan Kaláb, from Graffiti to Abstraction
Born in Prague in 1978, Jan Kaláb began his graffiti journey in the late 1990s under the name Cakes, within the Prague scene. He then evolved his work towards demanding geometric abstraction, becoming a prominent figure in the transition from street art to contemporary art. He exhibits in Europe, the United States, and Asia.
Circles, Ellipses, and Gradients
Jan Kaláb's work explores circles, ellipses, and organic shapes. His subtle gradients and color transitions create a sense of depth and perpetual movement. Some pieces adopt cut-out formats, at the boundary between painting and sculpture, retaining the energy of urban gestures with a rigor akin to minimalism.
