Jean-Luc Parant, the Man Who Made Spheres
Jean-Luc Parant (1944-2022) was a French sculptor, draftsman, and writer, known for his spheres and his writings on eyes. For over half a century, he crafted thousands of spheres and wrote hundreds of pages around a single obsession: seeing and touching the world.
Spheres and Writings on Eyes
Born on April 10, 1944, in Mégrine, Tunisia, Jean-Luc Parant trained in wood sculpture at the École Boulle from 1961 to 1966. Creator of the Maison de l'art vivant, author of a hundred books, he worked on everything related to "spherities": he wrote about eyes and shaped spheres from wax, clay, or paper. His works have been exhibited at the Fondation Maeght, the Centre Pompidou, and the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, and are included in the collections of the Bibliothèque nationale de France. Honorary President of the Marché de la poésie in 2018, he passed away in Caen on July 25, 2022.
