Jean-Claude Farhi, Sculptor of Light

Jean-Claude Farhi, born in Paris in 1940 and deceased in 2012, was a French sculptor and engraver. He moved to Nice in 1957 to study at the École des Beaux-Arts and became an assistant to César in 1968, a decisive experience for his sculptural practice.

Plexiglass and Transparency

Farhi made polymethyl methacrylate, or plexiglass, his material of choice. Columns, totems, and modular sculptures play with light, color, and transparency, at the intersection of geometric abstraction, minimalism, and kinetic art, in the spirit of Victor Vasarely. His works are featured in museums and regularly appear in public auctions.
