Description
With this second interpretation of the Alhambra, Pierre Garcia-Fons explores a more inner, almost sacred approach to the famous Andalusian palace. Where the first view bathed in the light of the garden, this composition invites the crossing of the threshold, towards the architectural depths of the building. The viewer's gaze is caught by the succession of doors, arches and galleries, in a striking perspective effect, where each shadow seems to open up to a new mystery. The artist is a brilliant return to the majesty and balance of this Islamic art, which combines geometry and refinement, with an economy of means in subtlety.
Garcia-Fons captures here the almost spiritual dimension of the place, as a blotting of the gaze and soul. The contrast between the monumental volumes of the arcades and the vegetation in the alleys underscores this constant tension between nature and architecture, between contemplation and journey. The lithographic technique, mastered with great finesse, allows gradients of nuanced black that evoke the freshness of marbles and the depth of shadows. Through this work, the artist invites us to cross the threshold of the Alhambra as we enter into a dream, a world suspended in time, where art becomes universal language. A remarkable piece, at the same time discreet and inhabited, that fits in with the tradition of the great cartoonists-travellers.
