Description
In These Sunsets are to die for!, Shepard Fasy orchestra a visual and ideological shock of a rare efficiency. Behind the appearance of a romantic appearance of a couple observing a flamboyant sunset hides a direct denunciation of industrial pollution. The black silhouette of the plant spitting its toxic smoke invades the sky, confusing beauty of the landscape and ambient toxicity. By its graphic treatment with red flat, orange and black, the artist summons the aesthetics of propaganda, between Russian constructivism and American advertising imaging of the 1950s. This diversion recalls Barbara Kruger or Jenny's approach. Holzer, where the irony and the political message intermingle in a direct visual language, both seductive and disturbing.
Shepard Faisy, faithful to his practice of a committed art, sign here a work that questions collective passivity in the face of environmental threats. The slogan "These Sunsets Are to Die for! ", Both advertising slogan and funeral sentence, plays on the ambiguity of language to better denounce the absurdities of our time. The couple, frozen in front of the visual apocalypse, echoes the solitary characters of Magritte or to the indifferent passers-by at Edward Hopper, all helpless witnesses of a changing world. Like his famous posters Obey Giant or Make Art Not WarThis screen printing combines the impact of Street Art with the scope of a visual manifest. A striking work, at the crossing of graphics, activism and black poetry.
