Description
Carried out in 2016, Skull of a Black Planet is an emblematic screen printing of Shepard Fairey, a major figure of the street contemporary art. This work is part of the series Fear of a Black Planet, in which the artist develops a critical reflection on power, propaganda, industrialization and their consequences on society and the environment.
The composition is based on a skull whose shape incorporates a stylized representation of the earth's globe, evoking both global domination and the fragility of the planet. The inscription "Obey" placed on the front acts as a strong symbol of submission to political, economic and media systems. In the background, industrial graphic references, including the factory accompanied by the mention "Palace of Power", reinforce the engaged message and whistleblower specific to the work of the artist.
Printed in screen printing on high grammage paper, this work benefits from a subtle embossing that brings relief and depth to the image, accentuating its visual impact.
