Description
This original screenprint by Shepard Fairey, entitled Angel of Hope and Strength (2020), perfectly illustrates the graphic and humanist commitment of the American artist. Created in his immediately recognisable style, blending influences from political propaganda, street art and contemporary pop art, the work depicts a female figure holding a torch, a universal symbol of hope, courage and resilience. Behind her, a globe and the motto "Strength in Service, Strength to Overcome" reinforce the message of solidarity and collective action in the face of contemporary challenges.
The composition is built around Shepard Fairey's emblematic palette, dominated by reds, blues and beiges, creating a powerful contrast that immediately draws the eye. The stylised wings, the red cross on the garment and the determined posture of the figure evoke the commitment of healthcare workers and essential workers, to whom this creation pays tribute. Produced in 2020, in a global context marked by the health crisis, this work carries a message of support, hope and unity that goes well beyond its time.
Printed as a screenprint on paper, format 61 x 46 cm, this edition is signed, numbered and dated in pencil by the artist at the lower right. Highly sought after by lovers of contemporary street art and collectors of the Obey universe, Angel of Hope and Strength is a strong testimony to art's capacity to convey universal messages while retaining remarkable graphic quality. It holds a significant place in Shepard Fairey's recent production, whose works are now among the major references of international urban art.
