Amedeo Clemente MODIGLIANI (born 12 July 1884 in Livorno (Italy) and died 24 January 1920 in Paris, France) is an Italian painter and sculptor.
Originally considered to be a sculptor, it was not until 1914 that he devoted himself exclusively to drawing and painting portraits and nudes. His works, with stretched shapes and faceless mask-like faces, remain emblematic of modern art of that time. He dies prematurely, sickly and alcoholicly; the next day, her companion, Jeanne Hébuterne, nine months pregnant, committed suicide.
