Roland Oudot, the Gentleness of Poetic Reality
Roland Oudot (1897-1981) was a French painter, engraver, and decorator, member of the Poetic Reality group. His landscapes of Provence and Île-de-France, his female figures, and his still lifes, of great gentleness, celebrate a sensitive and luminous figurative painting.
A Painter of Poetic Reality
Trained at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Roland Oudot initially worked as a decorator, notably for Léon Bakst, before dedicating himself to painting. After World War II, he was part of the Poetic Reality group with Maurice Brianchon, Christian Caillard, Jules Cavaillès, Raymond Legueult, Roger Limouse, André Planson, and Kostia Terechkovitch, advocating for a lyrical and colorful figuration. As an engraver and lithographer, he also illustrated numerous books.
