Casimir Maystre, Ports and Villages of the Mediterranean

Casimir Maystre (1918-2008) was a Provençal painter and draftsman, enamored with the Mediterranean, its ports, and villages. Using charcoal, watercolor, or pencil, he captured the light and gentleness of the Côte d'Azur.

A Provençal Draftsman

Born on November 25, 1918, in Fréjus, Casimir Maystre remained attached to his region throughout his life. He traveled it on a Solex, easel on his shoulder, sketching boats, quays, and small coastal villages. As much an illustrator as a painter, he also created posters for Fréjus' festivals and dances. In 2006, poet Guy Geeraert published Fréjus en poésie, illustrated with his works. His art, spontaneous and sincere, follows the tradition of Southern light painters. He passed away in Marseille on July 7, 2008.
