Description
Shepard Fairey, a must-see figure in street art and contemporary silkscreening, pays tribute to the famous picasso dove through a series of works entitled Ode to freedom. Inspired by the universal symbol of peace and hope, Fairey revisits this iconography by integrating its unique graphic aesthetic, blending geometry, symmetry and a palette of contrasting colours.
These three screenprints, entitled Geometric Columbus of Obey, there are three chromatic variations: blue, black and red. Each of them offers a subtle interpretation of the same composition, where the dove in flight is framed by circular shapes and fan patterns, evoking visual harmony and graphic balance unique to the artist's work.
The version blue dove stands out for its soothing background, reinforcing the idea of serenity and hope. The decline dove black plays on a powerful contrast, bringing a more intense and striking dimension to the work. Finally, the variant dove red enhances the composition with a vivid hue, recalling propaganda posters and the militant visual language often used by Fairey.
Each screen printing, made with a great finesse of execution, is signed by the artist and printed in limited edition, reinforcing its exclusivity and its appeal for amateurs ofurban art and screen printing.
With this series, Shepard Fairey not only celebrates the legacy of Picasso, but also the timeless idea of a more peaceful world, where art plays a role as a universal messenger.
