Description
The aquagravure is a refined artistic technique that combines engraving and water to give birth to unique works, prints of matter and relief. Developed by Christian Bramsen at the Clot, Bramsen & Georges workshop in Paris, this method is based on the work of a plaque in tender matter, which the artist incises or model before wetting. Under pressure, water interacts with ink and paper – often a thick vellum – to reveal powerful and singular textures, where each print becomes a work in its own right. The artist Tony Soulie has taken advantage of this technique, as evidenced by Circus III, an original aquagravure made in 2010. D 54 x 74 cm, this piece, numbered and signed at the bottom right, bears the expressive mark of its author: a vibrant composition with black forms in tension, framed by bright reds, solar yellows and dynamic curves. Certified and unique, this work perfectly illustrates the plastic strength and almost sculptural dimension that aquagravure allows.
