BUFFET Bernard - Original lithograph "Château de Rochechouart" 77x58cm - 1981

Bernard Buffet showcases French architectural heritage with Château de Rochechouart (1981), an original lithograph that illustrates the full power of his graphic style. Created on vellum paper in a format of 77 × 58 cm, this work depicts the famous Château de Rochechouart, majestically perched atop a hill, surrounded by dense vegetation that accentuates its monumental character. True to his expressionist style, Bernard Buffet constructs the composition using bold black lines, deep hatchings, and assertive perspectives that give the building a striking presence. The light roofs, tall towers topped with conical roofs, and the winding path leading to the castle create a scene that is both dramatic and elegant, while the shades of green, ochre, and blue bring balance and luminosity to the whole. Numbered and signed in pencil by Bernard Buffet, this original lithograph is reproduced in the catalogue raisonné Bernard Buffet Lithographie – Tome 2 by Maurice Garnier and Fernand Mourlot (Sorlier), under number 357. The work is also sold with its certificate of authenticity, guaranteeing its origin and perfect traceability.

Through this representation of the Château de Rochechouart, Bernard Buffet once again demonstrates his talent for magnifying historical monuments and iconic landscapes of France. More than just an architectural view, this composition conveys a true atmosphere where silence, the strength of the stones, and the verticality of the towers interact with a pervasive nature. The contrast between the dark masses of vegetation and the whiteness of the castle highlights the building while reinforcing the depth of the scene. This 1981 print will appeal to collectors of original lithographs by Bernard Buffet, modern art enthusiasts, French heritage enthusiasts, historical castle enthusiasts, and 20th-century paper works. With its handwritten signature, numbering, certificate of authenticity, and inclusion in the Sorlier catalogue raisonné, Château de Rochechouart is a sought-after reference work, valued both for its artistic quality and its heritage significance within Bernard Buffet's printed works.
