This silkscreen print "New Angel" is inspired by my love for the design and symbolism of Art Nouveau. Art Nouveau offered a counter-narrative to industrialization, in which harmony with nature and respect for its untamed aspects were spiritually embodied through floral and feminine forms. Of course, angels symbolize guidance and protection. Thus, the themes of Art Nouveau, combined with my belief that women play a leading role in building a more peaceful and just society, naturally led me to this combination of style and subject. Let your guardian angels guide you to cultivate peace and justice! - Shepard Fairey

Description
In Novel Angel, Shepard Fairey develops a symbolic composition around the notions of peace and justice, two recurring themes in his work. A winged female figure occupies the center of the image, arms outstretched, surrounded by plant motifs and placed above a lotus flower. The inscriptions "OBEY", "PEACE" and "JUSTICE" structure the composition and reinforce its emblematic character.
The work incorporates Shepard Fairey's characteristic graphic codes: highly symmetrical construction, geometric shapes, ornamental motifs, strong contrasts, and intentionally restricted palette. The figure of the angel, associated with the lotus and floral motifs, brings a more spiritual dimension to the artist's militant and immediately recognizable aesthetic. The themes of peace and justice are indeed very present in his recent production and exhibitions.
