Biography of Jean-Marie Guiny

Jean-Marie Guiny (born May 3, 1954) is a French painter, engraver and sculptor. As early as adolescence, he became passionate about animal drawing, especially in ink from China, and became interested in copper engraving. In 1975, his first works were noted at the Salon "Memories of Corot" in Viroflay. The following year, he made his first lithography and signed an exclusive publishing contract for a series of dry-point engravings. His numerous trips to Spain, Portugal and the Camargue nourish his inspiration, especially around horses and bulls.

Artistic career

After his military service as a teacher in the Air Force, Jean-Marie Guiny devoted himself fully to his artistic practice. He participates in numerous trade shows in France and abroad, and his works are published by various European and Japanese publishers. In the 1980s, he explored mixed techniques, combining dry tip and carborundum, and commissioned several cultural institutions. He also collaborated with major distributors, and from 1987 he signed a global publishing contract with "Art Forum". At that time, he also began to work on large-format painting and opened up to new themes such as nudes and floral compositions. In 1991, he made his first sculpture of earth and plaster. He exhibited in Nancy, Metz, Tours and Saint-Paul de Vence.

Style and influences

The style of Jean-Marie Guiny is animated by the energy of movement. It is inspired mainly by the animal world, with a preference for horses and bulls. His line is lively, nervous, and his compositions reflect both the power and the grace of his subjects. Between abstraction and figuration, he develops personal writing, nourished by varied techniques and great freedom of expression.

Distinction and recognition

Throughout his career, Jean-Marie Guiny received several awards, including the Prix Delmas in 1996 awarded by the Institut de France. His works are present in many private and public collections, and continue to be exhibited and collected, testifying to the sustainability of his work.
