Description
Created around 1975, Profile of a Woman stands out as one of Jean Jansem's most minimalist works. Jansem was known for the sensitivity of his drawing and his unique perspective on the human figure. This lithograph depicts a young woman in profile, with delicately sketched features set against a background of soft, luminous tones.
The viewer's attention is immediately drawn to the face and the finesse of the lines. Without adding unnecessary details, Jansem manages to create a strong presence and a sense of serenity. The character's posture, combined with the balanced composition, gives the work a timeless elegance that characterizes much of his production from the 1970s.
Beige, gray, and ivory hues dominate the composition, creating a warm atmosphere. The texture effects and subtle color variations enhance the surface of the print while highlighting the precision of the drawing. This harmony of tones contributes to the discreet charm of the work and underscores the refinement of the artist's craftsmanship.
Beyond the portrait, Jean Jansem presents an image here imbued with calm and restraint. His approach focuses on the essential, allowing each viewer the freedom to interpret the model's expression and the story behind this solitary silhouette.
This original lithograph on vellum paper, measuring 74 x 52 cm, is numbered and signed in pencil by the artist. It comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Due to its quality of execution, subtle palette, and delicate subject matter, Profile of a Woman is a work highly appreciated by fans of Jean Jansem and enthusiasts of 20th-century figurative art.
